Second day in Silicon Valley

Hi everyone! So today was my second day at M-A High School. I started my day with a delicious smoothie Caroline´s sister had made for me. At school, they had a so called block-day, which means that they only have 3 classes, but they were twice as long as usual. They had a math test in the first class, so after a while some other exchange students and I went outside to tan. It has been extremely warm these days almost 30 Celsius. Then I had statistics, which is also a math class, Caroline had a Spanish test, so I had to be with some strangers in another class. Our last class was AP US. History, which is a higher level than normal US. history I think. That class was probably the best class of the day! The teacher is really nice and laid-back and we talked about wars and the baby-boom in America and he asked me about gun control in Denmark. I like the classes here, but some subject like math is really hard to understand, since they do it in a very different way.

After school Caroline and I went to a place called Quickly, which is a japense place. We got something called bobble tea, which is a cold flavored tea. I got It with kiwi and it some chewy bobbles in it. It was soo good!! A couple of stores from it, there was a foot locker where I board some Jordan basketball shoes for my brother. Tonight we are going to a tap dance class, so I am very excited to see what that is going to be like.

SF and High School

I have not had time to write anything for the past couple of days, so I will try to remember what we have been doing. One of the days, we went to the former prison Alcatraz, which is now famous as a haunted prison. We sailed to the Island, where Alcatraz is and when we where there we got a headset because we had to listen to the history of Alcatraz. We have also been walking in the Muir woods and seen the Steinbeck museum. Of course we also saw The Golden Bridge Gate and while we were taking pictures, a Mexican guy came over and wanted us to pose very weird in front of the bridge, so we have some very bizarre pictures of that.

Yesterday, I arrived to my host family. We had dinner at the school, which was really delicious and I met my host family for the first time ever. Afterwards we drove home to their house, which is pretty big and very American looking. We watched a college basketball game on the TV, and then we just chatted the rest of the evening. They are soo nice and really friendly. Today was my first day at Menlo-Atherton High School. It is a very huge High School with over 2000 students. We drove to school in my host sisters Caroline’s car.  We had six classes, math, biology, Spanish, yearbook, US history and English.  It was fun to see the way their school works, and how it is to be a student in an American High School. It was very hot today, I think it was about 86 Fahrenheit. During one of our classes, we were allowed to tan outside, which was amazing since it was such a difference compared to the Danish weather. After school I went to see a Lacrosse game, which I have never seen before, but it was very interesting. There were a couple of us exchange students who were watching the game. Tonight we ate yummy Mexican food and then another Danish exchange student Jonas came over, while his host mom was at a meeting in my hos family’s house.

Our room.

                                           Breakfast on the hostel.

                                          Our street.

The amazing view of SF.

The crazy drug lady.

Not the best picture, but I thought I would put it up anyway.

                                          The golden bridge.

                                          The macig bus.

Finally in San Francisco.

Yesterday was our first ”real” day in San Francisco. We arrived yesterday after an awful long flight, first we flew from Billund to Copenhagen very early in the morning and then we flew to San Francisco. We had to wait about one and a half hour for security check which was very tiring, since I had not slept for 48 hours. Unfortunately, my luggage was missing, so I had to fill out some forms and I received 100 dollars so I could buy the basic things I needed. Besides that, our bus did not show up, so we had to wait a long time before it could come and get us. My first impression of the city was the very beautiful architecture and the fairly warm climate, which just was a big difference in contrast to Denmark.
We started our day with breakfast in the lounge of our hostel, which was totally american. The breakfast contained bagels large jars of peanut butter, Nutella and lots of jam. The people at the hostel are really friendly and open-minded, and it is really easy to have a conversation with them. After breakfast, we were hearing a presentation about his life and the American way of living. He was originally from Egypt and he had studied at a university in Denmark for a couple of years. Now he is a professor at a college in California. Afterwards we walked into the city, which is only a small distance from our hostel. Then we were riding a tourist bus, which was called “The Macig Bus”. The bus was very colorful and played very loud music. Our guide was a hippie, whom clearly was on drugs. I have never seen such a crazy women like her, she kept dancing and yelled at people on the street, but she generally talked about the sixties. We also had to wear a yellow flower in our hair, and she past some LSH around and she talked about how much she liked to get high. Anyway, it was a fun experience and I got some really nice pictures. After the tour-bus, we had some time for shopping and I literally went crazy. I used a lot of money in shops like, Victoria’s Secret, Mac, CVS, and many clothes shops. San Francisco is probably the best city, I have ever been in, it is so amazing. There were also some people who were “too friendly”, and tried to give us weed and stuff like that. We were also lost in the city and we could not find back, so there were a homeless guy who insisted to follow us over there. I think he had some kind of disorder he seemed really strange, and he said he wanted to ask us out for dinner, and he gave us lots of compliments. For dinner, we found a good restaurant/café, which made amazing pasta. We ate at nine. PM so were all really craving, since we hadn’t been eating for almost 14 hours.
Today we are going to see Alcatraz, Stanford University and do a “little” shopping. I am going to put some pictures in later, when I have a little more time. Im sorry if there are many spelling mistakes, I am very tired today!
